Ollie Barder Following Wonder Festival 2022 Summer , Good Smile Company decided to do its own separate event dubbed Smile Fest 2022 Tokyo . From cute Nendoroids to massive mecha toys, it’s clear Good Smile Company is entering a new and bigger phase.
For many, Nendoroids are the calling card for Good Smile Company. Cute little figures of various characters, Nendoroids have a big following all across the world. So this is something that Good Smile Company was openly celebrating.
The real Nendoroid related highlight were the Hololive figures, with Korone-chan being my personal favorite. Not least because she is an ardent fan of Super Robot Wars and enjoys saying “ eekum bokum ”. In addition to the Nendoroids, the figma range is also very popular, and there were quite a few gaming related figures shown.
From all the Souls related figmas to a new Guyver 1 and some rather nice looking entries for Metroid Dread . The Hagane Works Dancouga was a lot bigger than I was expecting. So I am happy that this partnership continues on. The flipside to all the character figures though was all the new mecha related toys and kits on the way. Since Hiro Tanaka joined Good Smile Company , there has been a major increase in the company’s mecha related output.
This doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon as the legion of Moderoid mecha kit releases are definitely picking up pace. The big reveal though was the mighty Hagane Works Dancouga (shown above), which was both beautifully executed as per Masami Obari’s updated designs and suitably huge with it. With a price tag of 58,000 yen (or around $430), this will be a very popular purchase with collectors when it is released in May of next year.
Overall, Smile Fest 2022 Tokyo had a lot on show and it’s clear that Good Smile Company is becoming a much larger player in the global toy and model kit industry.
