The beloved TV presenter’s death was confirmed by his family on Thursday morning, which came five years after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, who told fans of the former BBC Breakfast star: ‘He was resolutely positive and was hugely buoyed by the support he received from friends, colleagues, and messages from people wishing him luck.
  ‘It was a great comfort to Bill that so many more men are now testing earlier for this disease. ’ After tributes flooded in from many of his former BBC co-stars and more, it has been confirmed by the broadcaster that a special programme will air to celebrate this life on Friday, September 2. A statement from the BBC read: ‘BBC Breakfast will be celebrating the life of loves of former presenter Bill Turnbull in a special programme on Friday morning.
Turnball left the BBC in 2016 (Picture: PA) ‘We’ll look back at his 15 years hosting the show and speak to his former co-presenters Louise Minchin, Sian Williams and Susanna Reid. ’ Turnbull joined BBC Breakfast in 2001 as a presenter alongside Dr Williams and they worked together until 2012 when she left for Salford. He then co-anchored the programme with Susanna Reid and the pair presented together until 2014 when Reid left the show to join ITV.
