Axar Patel hit a counter-attacking half-century as India fought back after Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took his second test five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the second test Saturday. Patel scored 74 runs off 115 balls to pull his team from a precarious position as India was bowled out for 262 runs (83. 3 overs) in its first innings. Lyon took 5-67 in 29 overs as Australia took a one-run lead. It had scored 263 runs in its first innings. At stumps, Australia reached 61-1 (12 overs), with Travis Head unbeaten on 39 runs and Marnus Labuschagne on 16 not out. Overall, Australia leads by 62 runs. Lyon was said he was "happy" with the day's play. "There is more bounce here than in Nagpur which is something I tried to exploit," he said. "But I have an eye on the whole test overall and my role in the second innings. " Post lunch, India began from 88-4 as Ravindra Jadeja (26) and Virat Kohli (44) put on 59 runs for the fifth wicket. Todd Murphy (2-53) got the breakthrough as he trapped Jadeja lbw in the 47th over. India then lost two more quick wickets in the next four overs, including Kohli, and was reduced to 139-7. Debutant Matthew Kuhnemann (2-72) got his maiden test wicket as he trapped Kohli lbw. The decision was a dubious one with the ball hitting both bat and pad simultaneously. The batsman walked off unhappy even as the DRS review stayed in favor of Australia. Immediately after, Lyon completed his five-wicket haul as Srikar Bharat (6) edged to slip. The off-spinner had picked 7-94 at Delhi back in 2013. Patel then came together with Ravichandran Ashwin as the duo batted 177 balls for the eighth wicket. They put on 114 runs off 127 balls to resurrect the Indian innings. Ashwin scored 37 runs off 71 balls, including five fours. Patel played a key role though, hitting nine fours and three sixes, as he reached 50 off 94 balls. His knock helped India draw parity in the game before he fell to Murphy. In Australia's second innings, Head opened with Usman Khawaja (6). The latter was caught at leg gully off Ravindra Jadeja as Shreyas Iyer pulled off a sharp catch. Head attacked Jadeja hitting five fours and a six as the visitors avoided further damage until end of play. The morning session was a hectic one. Lyon picked up all four wickets to rock India's top-order. India lost Lokesh Rahul (17) and Rohit Sharma (32) within the first hour of play, despite Australia losing all its reviews. Cheteshwar Pujara fell for a seven-ball duck in his 100th test. He became the eighth cricketer to do so, joining Dilip Vengsarkar (India), Allan Border (Australia), Courtney Walsh (West Indies), Mark Taylor (Australia), Stephen Fleming (New Zealand), Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) and Alastair Cook (England). Iyer also fell before lunch as Peter Handscomb held a sharp catch that ricocheted twice off his arm and leg. Opener David Warner was subbed out of this test owing to concussion suffered on day one. The opener was hit on the helmet in the 10th over by Mohammed Siraj and didn't take the field late in the third session. Matt Renshaw will be his replacement in this match. Warner also had a suspected hairline fracture from an elbow hit in the same innings and could be in doubt for the remainder of the four-match series. On day one, Usman Khawaja (81) and Peter Handscomb (72 not out) had scored half-centuries after Australia won the toss and opted to bat. Mohammed Shami took 4-60. India leads the series 1-0 after winning the first test in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs. .
