‘Get your chequebook out!’ – Tyson Fury reacts to Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Anthony Joshua with message for both fighters

Usyk turned in another boxing masterclass to defeat Anthony Joshua for a second time in their rematch in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night. A split decision win saw him retain the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, adding The Ring Magazine title to his collection after it was recently vacated by Fury.
On the day of his 34th birthday last week, Fury once again said he was retired from boxing, insisting it was a final decision after ‘long, hard conversations’ over his future. But after delivering a blunt assessment of Usyk and Joshua’s showdown, the WBC champion signalled his intent to fight the winner. ‘After watching that, both of them were s***e,’ Fury said in an audio recording shared on Twitter.
‘It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights I’ve ever seen. It was bulls***. It was f***ing s****.
I would annihilate both on the same night. Get your chequebook out. Because The Gypsy King is here to stay forever.
’ Having seen off an improved Joshua, Usyk addressed the chances of meeting Fury in an undisputed heavyweight title clash in his post-fight interview. And while the 35-year-old expects Fury to return to the ring, he insisted he will retire himself if the fight is not made. THE GYPSY KING IS HERE TO STAY!!!@WBCBoxing @frankwarren_tv pic.
twitter. com/DaDCfbQvPI— TYSON FURY (@Tyson_Fury) August 20, 2022 ‘I’m sure that Tyson Fury is not retired yet. I’m convinced that he wants to fight me,” Usyk told Sky Sports through a translator.
‘I want to fight him and if I’m not fighting Tyson Fury, I’m not fighting at all. ’ In an interview with DAZN, Usyk added: Hey Tyson, back in ring please!’ Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn paid tribute to Usyk’s wonderful display, declaring the Ukrainian a ‘pound-for-pound great. ‘What a performance from Oleksandr Usyk.
I thought we had him but the 10th round was one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen,’ Hearn said. ‘What he did in the 10th, 11th, 12th rounds were incredible. AJ didn’t start fast enough but he fought a much better fight than last time.
He hurt him in the ninth but Usyk came on like a train. ‘In the 10th round, Usyk decided to regain the fight. He’s too good.
There’s no shame in it. You saw the reaction from AJ, from a human who wanted to win so badly and he exploded. ‘He couldn’t win, he’s a competitor, a winner.
But he was too good. That’s why he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter. I felt Usyk won because of the 10th,11th and 12th rounds.
I had it very close going into those rounds but the championship rounds showed from championship fighter that he is a pound-for-pound great. ’ MORE : Anthony Joshua throws Oleksandr Usyk’s world titles out of the ring before delivering passionate rant after defeat MORE : Oleksandr Usyk beats Anthony Joshua to retain heavyweight world titles with another masterclass victory For more stories like this, check our sport page.
