Changes to the programming line-up have been made across the major broadcasters since doctors said they were supervising the Queen on Thursday. Following Buckingham Palace’s announcement that the Queen had died peacefully at Balmoral, plunging the nation into a period of mourning, the BBC and other channels revised their programming line-up. On Friday, the public service broadcaster aired blanket coverage of the Queen’s death until 6. 30pm, with a series of BBC News specials. While BBC Two did not air round-the-clock programming of the Queen, it also amended its schedule for the day. The channels’ shows for the weekend follow a similar pattern, with BBC One airing hours of content on the Queen, while BBC Two has fewer alterations. Among the programming to be aired on the BBC are several documentary specials including Picturing Elizabeth: Her Life in Images about the stories behind some of the most famous and era-defining pictures of the Queen. The BBC first suspended its regular programming from lunchtime on Thursday after it was announced that there were concerns about the monarch’s health.
