Assam has definite NEP-2020 implementation plan, says Governor Prof. Mukhi
GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Mukhi said, "National Education Policy NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the twenty-first century announced on 29 July 2020, which leads the way for transformational reforms for qualitative and quantitative development of the human resources of the country". Speaking at a daylong conference on 'Implementation of NEP 2020 in Assam as a follow-up of Varanasi Conclave' at Assam Administrative Staff College here today, Governor Prof.
Mukhi said that NEP 2020 has become a white paper on the country's education and the government's intention as to how it wants to bring about the development of the country based on the education from primary to higher education. The Governor also said that Education is the foundation of a society and plays a pivotal role in building a nation and transforming its future. He also said that an education policy is also a statement of the government as to how it wants to develop the huge human resources depending on education.
He said that the Government of Assam has a definite action plan to implement the NEP 2020 in letter and spirit. He said that to reap dividends from NEP 2020, the government is implementing some actionable points like a common timetable, a common grading pattern and a common curriculum. He also said that the universities should work in an accountable manner to implement NEP 2020.
The Governor said that during the Varanasi Conclave it was suggested that the Governor may conduct a periodic review of steps taken for implementation of NEP 2020 with Vice Chancellors of the universities. He, therefore, has taken special care in holding brain-storming sessions with all the stakeholders to pave the way for the total implementation of NEP 2020. He also informed that over the past two years several discussions, seminars, and webinars have been conducted across the state to understand and appreciate the Higher Education policy document for the all-round development of the students of Assam.
It may be noted that the conference which was organised by Raj Bhavan, Assam in partnership with the Higher Education Department, Govt of Assam saw the presence and participation of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Education Ranoj Pegu, Vice-chancellors and educationists from across the country. It may be mentioned that the conference had four technical sessions with three resource persons in each technical session. The topic for the First technical session was 'Multidisciplinary, liberal arts and liberal education and Multiple exits and multiple entries'.
The resource persons were Prof. Ganesh Wari, Cotton University, Assam, Prof. K.
Ratnabali, Dean, Academic Affairs, Delhi University, and Prof. Vinod Kumar Jain, VC, Tezpur University. The second session was on the theme 'Academic Bank of Credit, choice-based credit system and internationalization of Education.
The resource persons were Prof. P. J.
Handique, VC, Gauhati University, Prof. Indranil Manna, Director BITS, Ranchi, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman AICTE.
The topic for the third technical session was 'Digital University, empowered blended mode of education and online education. The resource persons were Prof. Rajiv Mohan Pant, VC, Assam University, Prof.
Raghavendra P. Tiwari, VC Central University Punjab and Prof. Gautam Barua, Director IIIT.
The fourth technical session was on the theme 'Education/internship based credits, R and D innovation and incubation (skill) cells'. The resource persons were Prof. S.
P. Bansal, VC, Central University Dharamshala, Prof. Sitharam Director IIT-G, Assam , and Prof.
Bhushan Patwardhan, Chairman NAAC, a press release said. The ceremony was attended among others by the Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Advisor Education, Government of Assam Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, and others.
