Energy minister lambastes ministers with big egos
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman lambasted that some ministers have the tendency of seeing themselves as inspiring leaders, although their value emanates only because of the fact that they are representing Saudi Arabia. During his speech at the Saudi Media Conference here on Monday, he said: “I am saddened when I find any minister, who represents the Kingdom, believes that he is an inspiring minister and seasoned leader, and the same ego is inflated in him. “None of us must forget that he represents the state, and he does not have any value if he was not representing this country.
” Prince Abdulaziz stressed the need for ministers to have a role and value in the state and to preserve and enhance this value. He also stressed that they should act in a manner befitting the Kingdom's reputation, history and value in decision-making. “The concept of criticism among people is considered as a deficiency and its correct meaning is evaluation and taking that has a reflection, which is positive for the common good.
” The minister emphasized that the OPEC + group is flexible enough to change decisions whenever necessary, and that the group's decision to cut oil production by two million barrels per day was blown up by the media, and some of them described the decision as ruining the global economy. “The media publicized incorrect things based on rumors. In addition to this, nine ministers, representing the countries of the OPEC group, convened a meeting in this regard.
“Despite this, the Kingdom was the only country that was criticized, due to its size and position as it assumes the presidency of the group. Prince Abdulaziz stressed that this decision was based on information, studies, and expectations from several parties, far from any political influence. Even those who criticized this decision have become silent now because they found that their expectations regarding this decision were not met.
To vindicate this, the minister quoted the example of a British media organization and two newspapers issued from New York. Though they criminalized the oil production cut decision, they, later, confirmed that the decision was successful and correct. The minister emphasized that truthful media can be a mirror to know how others see you even in matters involving criticism.
He hailed the performance of the media communication center team at the Ministry, which consists of 15 women and about seven young men, stressing that this number will double this year. Prince Abdulaziz noted that when he assumed the office of minister of energy, there were only six female employees, but this number rose to 388 female employees. He stressed the importance of empowering young men and women to work and make them aware of its value, and promoting the intellectual property of their innovations.
He pointed out that the issue of climate change is an international issue, and that the Crown Prince directed to benefit from all the natural resources in the Kingdom while preserving the environment to limit climate change. He added that the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative have become an event accompanying the summit of world leaders at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. This is a good step because the target segment of this initiative is attending this conference, and their numbers are large and include those interested in environmental and technical aspects and other fields concerned with the two initiatives, he added < Previous Page Next Page >.
