The sportsman, 50, revealed the news on BBC Breakfast alongside Gabby, 49, saying he underwent surgery to have his prostate removed and that he is ‘90% back to normal’. ‘I went to get a wellness check, I got the wellness check, sat down with this guy and he told me, “Everything’s fine, your hormones are fine, but your prostate’s high, your PSA’s high,’ Kenny recalled to Sally Nugent. ‘So I said, “What does that mean?” He said, “It’s to do with your prostate, you should get checked.
” So I got checked and very quickly, within three or four months, I had a biopsy and they said, “There’s something there, just keep an eye on it, but the chances of it happening…” ‘The big figure he said to me [was], “40% of your mates have got it, they just don’t know they’ve got it. ”‘ ‘But they live with it, a lot of men will live with it and not know they’ve got it,’ Gabby added. ‘Which was a huge shock. ’ He added that he could choose between radiotherapy (a treatment where radiation is used to kill cancer cells), brachytherapy (a type of internal radiation therapy), and having the prostate taken out. ‘I decided to take it out, so I’m now three months from the operation, had the prostate out, I’m probably 95% back to normal, maybe 90% back to normal.
[It’s] hard, because when you’re told you have cancer – I literally fell over, I didn’t see it coming,’ Kenny explained. ‘No symptoms whatsoever, I had to go looking for it. ’ ‘I think that was the shocking thing for both of us,’ Gabby added.
‘The day before he went in for his operation…he’d done a bike session, he had no pain, he had no symptoms, and to go in and have surgery – it’s a really invasive surgery and it obviously takes a long time to recover from, you’re gonna feel a lot worse after it!
