Huawei, in collaboration with CRA, launches ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme 2022
The 2022 edition of the annual Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme has been launched in Qatar, offering college undergraduates and fresh graduates the opportunity to join a unique experience around technology innovation and cross-cultural exchange. Held in collaboration with the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), the initiative will give youth the opportunity to access and utilise Huawei's cutting-edge Information and Communications Technology (ICT), experience traditional and modern Chinese culture, and hone their professional development. The opening ceremony in Qatar was attended by officials from CRA, Huawei, and deans and professors of academic institutions with the participation of 22 talented students from Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Community College of Qatar, and the University of Doha for Science and Technology.
“We are pleased to take part in the sixth edition of Huawei’s ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme in Qatar. The efforts of the government, academia, and businesses are needed to enrich the ICT knowledge and skills of young talents since the ICT sector is considered a major enabler of Qatar National Vision 2030’s goals and in building a knowledge-based economy. I would like to thank Huawei for their efforts in inspiring local talents and expanding their horizons,” said Hussain Salatt, public relations and communication manager, CRA.
Liam Zhao, CEO of Huawei Gulf North, said: “Our leading global corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme grows from strength to strength. As in previous years, we expect robust participation and innovative ideas from our participants. Qatari youth have demonstrated immense talent for impactful ideas that support the digital transformation of our society.
We again appreciate our partner institutions and the government of Qatar for the continued support and success of our various local ICT talent nurturing initiatives. ” Huawei will also hold the Tech4Good global competition for the second year running, inviting young people to explore how digital technologies can address social issues. Through group projects, Tech4Good aims at increasing social entrepreneurship, and developing strong problem-solving and leadership skills through teamwork, hence instilling a deeper level of social responsibility in our future leaders.
During the eight-day ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme, participants will receive entry-level and advanced courses on key technologies, including 5G technology, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). They will also experience virtual tours of Chinese scenic spots or fast-growing companies and a glimpse at Huawei's history and technological developments, including virtual exploration of Huawei exhibition halls, campus, and stores. Huawei experts, entrepreneurs, professors, and scientists will also be at hand to share perspectives on a wide range of topics, from cybersecurity to the aerospace industry.
“Developing the digital economy has become the national strategy of most countries. Digital skills and literacy are essential to the development of the digital economy, and digital talent is the key to achieving digital transformation and economic growth. ‘Seeds for the Future’ is Huawei's corporate-level CSR flagship program with the longest history and highest investment.
“It provides young students with the latest digital skills training that helps them fill the gap between theory and practice, with the long-term vision to cultivate digital talent and future young leaders who can promote the development of a wide range of industries and achieve the national visions of their countries,” Zhao concluded. ‘Seeds for the Future’ includes a global competition inviting participants to develop innovations and compete for prizes with the other technological projects created by students worldwide. Since its first launch in 2008, the programme has been implemented in 137 countries and regions, reaching 12,413 young students from over 500 universities and gaining endorsement from 189 heads of state and high-level government officials globally.
Last year’s event attracted 34 students shortlisted from different universities in Qatar.    .
