Jose Mourinho pays impromptu tribute to the Queen after Roma lose to Ludogorets
Jose Mourinho has paid a heartfelt tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after her death, with the Roma boss discovering the news midway through his side’s Europa League match. Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis The Italian club were beaten 2-1 by Ludogorets on Thursday night, with news of the Queen’s death breaking just moments before the teams were due to return to the pitch for the second half. Mourinho has spent much of his managerial life in England, having had two spells at Chelsea and also managed Manchester United and Tottenham.
He still calls London home and was incredibly moved by the Queen’s death, offering an impromptu tribute to Her Majesty in his post-match interview after the match. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Mourinho said: ‘I am so sorry to hear this news. ‘I am not a foreigner in Britain, it is my home, my family’s home, we’ve lived there for many years.
‘She was a wonderful figure. I don’t know anyone who didn’t have respect for her. She was a great lady as well as a Queen.
’ Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died after 70 years on the throne, with her death announced by Buckingham Palace on September 8, 2022. She died at the age of 96 surrounded by her family at her home in Balmoral, including her son and heir to the throne Charles, the Prince of Wales , and her grandsons, the Duke Of Cambridge, Prince William and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.
