Amone at the double! Persistent pressure pays off for the Dragons, who received a six again call after Amone himself went centimetres away from scoring his second try just seconds earlier. This time, Jack Bird did a lot of the heavy lifting and found the Amone who wasn't to be denied this time around. "What I like about the Dragons, they're not playing structured football," Shane Flanagan says on Fox League's coverage.
"Everyone's just pushing up and playing what they see. " "I don't reckon he ran three or four times last week, he's already had five carries and two tries. A big difference from the young man.
" Lomax is good with the conversion once again and the Dragons suddenly have a 12-6 lead. Talatau Amone has struck back almost straight away and the Dragons needed that! The five-eighth burrows through four defenders and grounds it cleanly, and the try is confirmed by the Bunker. Woolford attempted to wrap up the ball only to see Amone burst straight through for the four-pointer.
Zac Lomax drills the conversion and we're tied 6-6 as the clock ticks over the 10-minute mark. The Raiders capitalise on a Dragons' mistake virtually instantly! An error from the 40 line from Jack Bird leads directly to a try for Hudson Young! It comes after a brilliant grubber kick from hooker Zac Woolford. Jamal Fogarty makes no mistake on the easy conversion and it's an early 6-0 lead to the home side.
Penrith assistant Cameron Ciraldo has reportedly inked a five-year deal to become the head coach of the Canterbury Bulldogs, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. Ciraldo had been heavily linked with the vacant job at Belmore after Trent Barrett left the role earlier this season. He has also turned down a five year deal from the Wests Tigers to remain on Penrith's coaching staff having spent several years as Ivan Cleary's understudy at the Panthers.
The 37-year-old reportedly informed his current club of his decision at training on Sunday. "We just wish him the best," Panthers Group chief executive Brian Fletcher told the publication. "He's done a great job for us coming through as an understudy and getting us to a Jersey Flegg grand final win.
He's been involved with Ivan and it's only natural he's been well sought after. It's great to think he's come through our system. We just wish him all the best.
"It'll now be business as usual for us with Cameron for the rest of the year and he can worry about the Dogs from the 1st of November. " A former Sharks, Knights and Panthers player, the Sydney-born coach was promoted to the role of assistant coach at Penrith in 2017. Canterbury general manager Phil Gould thinks highly of Ciraldo and handed him the caretaker role when the Panthers sacked Anthony Griffin back in 2018.
"Cameron Ciraldo has come through 10 or 11 years with the Panthers in the system," Gould said on Nine's 100% Footy in June. "He came there as a second-tier player in the back end of his career. He coached an under-20s team to two grand finals, winning a premiership.
"He was promoted then to assistant first-grade coach. He was the interim there for a while and he's served Ivan Cleary really well over the last three years. They've been to two grand finals, they've won a premiership and they'll probably win it again this year.
" Roosters young gun Joseph Suaalii has been charged by the NRL match review committee but has escaped a ban following a high tackle on Cowboys half Tom Dearden during his side's win on Saturday. Suaalii faces a $1,000 fine with an early guilty plea because the incident is his first offence this year. There was some concern about the contact during the game considering he hit Dearden with a swinging arm, but he was not sin-binned and will be available for selection for round 23.
The 19-year-old is fast building himself a reputation as one of the NRL's gutsiest defenders. Up against the second-placed North Queensland Cowboys, Suaalii scored the opening try of the match and ran for 158m as the Roosters ran out 32-18 winners at the SCG. He also came up with a number of big tackles in the first half, including a bruising hit on Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater.
"The thing that excites me most about Suaalii is his ability and want to go after the contact," Fox Sports' Corey Parker said. .
