News24.com | Experienced Kapp relishing St George's homecoming: 'We know what we have to do'
All-rounder Marizanne Kapp is looking forward to playing in front of her home crowd for the first time as South Africa hosts Australia in Gqeberha on Saturday. The Proteas face the defending champions in a crucial Group A encounter of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup at St George's Park. Before that fixture, Australia play Sri Lanka at St George's Park on Thursday.
Regardless of the outcome of that game, it becomes imperative that the Proteas win their next two games, first against the Australians and then Bangladesh on Tuesday, to keep their semi-final fate in their hands. The SA women come off a resounding 67-run triumph over New Zealand after losing the tournament's opening match against Sri Lanka last week. Kapp, who has played 221 international matches for SA, will be making her first international appearance at her home ground in Gqeberha.
"I'm extremely excited . . .
It's going to be so special because it is going to be in front of my family and home crowd," said Kapp. "I know Gqeberha hasn't been blessed with many, if any, international games in the past 13 or 14 years that I have been playing. "I know there are going to be many young girls supporting me and the team who haven't had the opportunity to watch us play live, that is going to be something very special.

The Windy City will be hosting a blockbuster double-header on Saturday, with England taking on India at 15:00 before the Proteas women take to the field against the Aussies. In the 2020 edition, the Proteas women lost to the trophy holders in a rain-affected semi-final in Australia and they'll be looking to create an upset this Saturday.
Kapp stressed the importance of playing against unbeaten Australia as they want to give their all against the tough opponents. "It's an extremely important game for us. Unfortunately, we slipped up in that first game against Sri Lanka, which we are disappointed about," continued Kapp.
"Now we know what we have to do. It's always tough playing against Australia and this is no different. "They are playing three matches here and our first one here will be against them, we know that it will be tough.
I think if we keep on believing and every single player who walks onto that field gives their 150%, we can't ask for anything more. " Despite the win against New Zealand, batting has been the area of concern for the Proteas, with mini-batting collapses and few partnerships in the middle. Kapp hopes they address those concerns as South Africa - who are third in Group A's standings - vie for a place in the World Cup semi-finals.
"The biggest thing for us is partnerships within our game, whether that is bowling or batting, that is the thing we have been lacking, especially when it comes to the batting department," said Kapp. "The previous game was by no means our best game, but we seem to improve as we go along, that's the most important thing, that we keep improving. " Tickets for the match are available here .
Play on Saturday starts at 19:00. .
