Purabi Dairy distributor Ranjit Bora murder case solved; 5 accused apprehended
STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Guwahati Police has solved the murder case of Purabi Dairy distributor Ranjit Bora which had taken place in the Panjabari area of the city on November 21. The six-member gang which was involved in the murder has been identified. While five accused have been arrested, one is absconding.
The five persons who have been arrested are Shah Alom Talukdar (33), resident of Hajo, Kamrup who lived in a rented house at Panjabari; Sujal Ali (27), resident of Satgaon in Guwahati ; Jaydev Mahanta (40), resident of Noonmati; Jitu Moni Barman (37), resident of Satgaon; and Haren Patgiri, resident of Patacharkuchi in the Bajali district. The sixth accused has been identified but the details have not been disclosed. The police have recovered the black Hero Glamour bike with red stripes bearing registration number AS-01 AQ 4064 (which was used in the commission of the crime) from the house of the elder sister of accused Shah Alam; the black helmet of Sujal Ali from his residence which was worn by him at the time of the commission of the crime; the wearing apparel of accused Shah Alam @ Jitu from his residence, which he was wearing at the time of commission of the crime; and a Hero Super Splender Bike bearing registration number AS-01-EY 6898 which was used for recce at the time of preparation of the crime by the gang members from the rented house of accused Shah Alam.
They have admitted that they had committed the crime using the recovered Hero Glamour bike with a 9mm pistol. The person having the pistol is absconding. Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Diganta Borah told media persons, "Due to joint effort by the police of Kamrup (metro), Kamrup and Nalbari districts, five gang members have been apprehended.
The motive behind the murder was looting money. The gang had planned and plotted the crime three weeks before the incident. They have done recce and closely observed the movements of Ranjit Bora.
Finally on November 21, they executed the crime. " Borah said that Shah Alom Talukdar and Sujal Ali had come in the black Hero Glamour bike to snatch the bag containing Rs 2. 45 lakh from Ranjit Bora.
When the victim resisted, Shah Alom shot him with the 9mm pistol. The looted money was distributed among Shah Alom, who received Rs 1 lakh, Sujal Ali received Rs 1. 05 lakh while Jitu Moni Barman received Rs 40,000.
This 6-member gang was involved in many other cases of loot. There is a case registered against them in Paltanbazar PS (case no 38/22 u/s 392 IPC) for robbing Rs 3,04,420 from Sanjib Medhi, staff of Padmaja Gas Agency; another case in Satgaon PS (case no. 43/19 u/s: 341/325/394 IPC) for robbing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh from Prasenjit Madak; another case in Mukalmua PS (Nalbari district) case no.
42/2023 U/S 395/325/307/365 IPC R/W 25 Arms Act for looting Rs 11 lakh from the shop of Amir Ali Pradhani of Mukalmua; and another case in Changsari PS (case no. 462/2022 U/S 365/395 IPC) for looting Rs 31 lakh from businessman Ranjit Nath.
