Sky Sports have offered to share their live coverage with the terrestrial channel if Heather Knight’s side make it through to face Australia or India , with a final decision to be made by Channel 4 after the semi-finals. Sky have developed a policy of making events they deem to be of national significance available free-to-air in recent years, with Channel 4 becoming regular partners.
England’s men’s 50 over and T20 World Cup wins in 2019 and 2022 respectively were shown live on Sky and Channel 4, but the women’s World Cup final defeat to Australia in Christchurch last year was not due to the unfavourable time difference. Sky did make that 50 over final available free-to-air by showing it on their Freeview channel Sky Pick and streaming it on YouTube, but sharing coverage of Sunday’s final with Channel 4 would guarantee a far bigger audience and could attract record viewing figures for a women’s game. England are one win away from reaching the T20 final where they could play Australia or India England skipper Heather Knight has helped inspire the national side during their T20 run If Channel 4 decline Sky’s offer then the game will still be made available for free via Sky Pick.
England’s 2017 World Cup final win over India at Lord’s attracted a peak audience of over 1million, while the launch of the Hundred in 2021 got over 2m viewers as the women’s game between Oval Invincibles and Welsh Fire was broadcast by both Sky and BBC.
