In Pictures via Getty Images It’s Monday, July 11th which means that the seventh month of 2022 is nearly halfway over. We’re on Wordle #387, so in less than two weeks we’ll hit #400.
July 11th is actually the last day my son will be 11. He has his golden birthday tomorrow when he turns 12 which is exciting, though as they say: They grow up so fast. Too fast.
Interesting things that happened on this day in history include: In 1955 President Eisenhower signed a bill declaring that “In God We Trust” would be printed on all paper money (it was already on coins). By the following year, a joint resolution of Congress changed the US motto from E. Pluribus Unum to “In God We Trust.
” Curiously, decades earlier in 1907, president Teddy Roosevelt ordered the motto removed from coins, believing it to be vulgar. The public was furious and Congress quickly passed laws ensuring “In God We Trust” would not simply be inscribed on some coins, but all coins. On this day in 1977, the Medal Of Freedom was award to Rev.
Martin Luther King Jr. posthumously—just over a decade after his assassination. In 1985, Coke changed its formula and introduced “New Coke” to the world.
The world was decidedly not impressed. Two years later the world’s population hit 5 billion. It is now within striking distance of 8.

Why did I guess farms you might be wondering? I wish I knew. Like I’ve said in the past, I try to use a new starting word every single day, which isn’t always easy to think of.
Sometimes you just go with whatever pops into your brain first. It was a pretty good guess, though, giving me the ‘A’ in green and a yellow ‘M’ which I had a gut feeling would go in the opening spot. While Farms normally only gets you down to 168 possible remaining solutions (out of 2,309) today it narrowed my possibilities down to just 24.
In any case, going with ‘M’ in the first spot I first thought maids but realized the ‘S’ was out of play. I wanted to get another vowel out of the way, but when I thought of madly I figured it would at least test my ‘M’ theory. Sure enough, I now had MAD in green, leaving me with very few options.
I actually was really stuck for a while, going through all the other vowels I had remaining and coming up empty—until I realized I could reuse the ‘A’ and the ‘M’ for the word madam— which is not just a formal way to refer to a lady, but also a palindrome which is spelled the same backwards and forwards. Good day, madams and gentlemen! Have a splendid week! Follow me on Twitter . Check out my website .
